TRAIL VARIANTS
Enjoy the trail in a different way
1. Hike the trail in reverse would be slightly more challenging, but might be more convenient, since the New Town Bus 14 has regular service (17 bus services daily) to Shek O via Big Wave Bay, but not vice versa. By doing so, you could also enjoy the sunset scenery on Dragon's Back, since it would be much closer to the finishing point at To Tei Wan.
2. Emergency Exits: You can shorten the trail but still enjoy the best of it by exiting at Tai Tam Gap or Pottinger Gap, exiting to Tai Tam Gap and Chai Wan respectively. For more information, please visit our 'Towards Big Wave Bay' page.
THINGS TO NOTE
Important Tips for while you're hiking
1. Especially if you are not hiking in reverse (Heading towards Big Wave Bay Direction), do remember to note the sunset time and do not stay until sunset. There is a long way to go after Dragon's Back. Leave Dragon's Back for the remaining part of the trail before 3 p.m. if it's winter, 4 p.m. if it's summer. If you want to enjoy the sunset view, you are recommended to exit at Tai Tam Gap (Emergency Exit 1) to shorten your hike to only the Dragon's Back Section. Always bring a torch in this case. 2. Bring enough water to last the entire hike. You are recommended to bring at least 1 litre of water per person. Always stay hydrated throughout the hike.
